CONFERENCE: NUMBERS IN MEDICINE, 29th January 2001, Royal Society of Medicine
In 1963 the Royal Society of Medicine set up a Section of Measurement in
Medicine to promote quantitative medicine. Seen as a radical move at the
time, in the last two or three decades we have nonetheless begun to take
for granted that medicine is, among much else, a quantitative science. On
January 29th 2001 a conference is being held at the Royal Society of
Medicine to examine how medicine has become quantified since the sixteenth
century to the present day, and the challenges that this has held for
medical ideas and practice. Speakers will include medical practitioners as
well as historians of medicine.
