ICT Access Consultant, Southern Museums
Southern Museums is looking to appoint a consultant in ICT to provide advice
and support on access related initiatives across the region. Southern
Museums is a region of South Eastern Museums Service and serves the counties
of Hants, Berks, Bucks, Oxon and Isle of Wight We have a membership of 128
registered museums, ranging from small volunteer run independents to large
local authority and designated museums. The ICT Access Consultant would be
expected to work with a range of people and organisations to enable and
encourage good practice in the use of ICT in access projects.
Closing date for applications 28 April 2000. Interviews will be held on 9
May 2000.

ICT Access Consultant, Southern Museums
Purpose of the post
To survey member museums in the region and gauge the level and activity and
expertise in museum-based ICT projects, and thereafter provide advice,
support and training to members and Southern Museums
Responsible to: Museums Development Officer (Education and Access)
Key Accountabilities
1. Provide advice and information to members on how to exploit museum
information on the internet, including digitisation of
learning resources,
and enabling access to information about museum collections
using ICT
2. Research national and regional ICT initiatives and opportunities
(including funding) relating to the use of ICT as a means of advancing
access to museums and their collections
3. Establish a network of relevant contacts relating to ICT and
museums, libraries
and archives, including MLAC, MDA, National Grid for
Learning, People's Network, Learning Centres project etc.
4. Undertake relevant training and briefing sessions on developments in
ICT as
agreed with MDO (Education and Access) and provide training
sessions on ICT skills for members
5. Identify key museum services and workers/volunteers with particular
ICT skills
available as a resource across the region and establish and
maintain a network for member museums to share experiences in developing ICT
projects
6. Work with selected individual members to develop appropriate ICT
access
