The BOPCRIS consortium, comprising 11 UK research libraries, aims to provide
shared reader information services for British Official Publications. The BOPCRIS
Web database will allow researchers to search and browse for relevant documents,
read abstracts and find out the nearest location of relevant documents from their
desktops (through a national database of collection strengths) and, in addition,
a subset of documents will be downloadable in full text. Work commenced on BOPCRIS
(1833-1983) in August 1999 as part of the Research Support Libraries Programme
(RSLP, see http://www.rslp.ac.uk). It seeks to build on the successful methodology
developed by staff in the Ford Collection at the University of Southampton to
deliver British Official Publications Current Awareness Service (BOPCAS,
http://www.bopcas.com/), a Web-based reference finding tool which enables
researchers to keep track of very recent official publications from 1995
onwards. BOPCAS was set up with HEFCE funding in 1995. The BOPCRIS consortium
includes the following partner institutions:
The British Library
The British Library of Political and Economic Science, London
Brotherton Library, University of Leeds
Cambridge University Library
Centre for Data Digitisation and Analysis, Queen's University Belfast
Edinburgh University Library
Glasgow University Library
Higher Education Digitisation Service, JISC
Institute for Learning and Research Technologies (ILRT), University of Bristol
University of Newcastle upon Tyne Library
Queens' University Belfast Library
University of Wales Aberystwyth Library
University of London Library, Senate House
University of Southampton Library
University of Warwick Library
We have now received additional support to expand the scope of BOPCRIS to
cover the period 1688 - 1995. BOPCRIS (1688-1800) forms part of the British
Library Co-operation and Partnership Programme (see: http://www.bl.uk/concord),
and BOPCRIS (1801-32 and 1984-95) is an extension of our RSLP work. The
