Dear IBRU and int-boundaries colleagues,
Please accept this message as an invitation for the submission of
scientific articles for a Special Issue of the Journal of Marine Geodesy
on "Maritime Boundaries and Error Estimation".
Topics of interest in this issue are, for example:
1. the determination of boundaries and limits, and their error estimates;
2. the determination of the outer limit of the continental shelf and
important interim steps, such as the determination of the foot of the
continental slope or the Gardiner line, and their error estimates;
3. high accuracy 3-D bathymetric methodologies and multibeam surveys designed
to identify the 2,500 m isobath and the foot of the continental slope;
4. co-ordinate transformations between any combination of global and
regional geodetic reference systems and their error estimates;
5. realization of and transformations between regional and global height
datums, and error estimates;
6. the precise determination of the Lowest Astronomical Tide (LAT) and
its error estimates (in view of serious tidal resolution problems posed
by finite tide gauge records);
7. geodetic definition and design of closing, straight and archipelagic
baselines; and
8. optimization of geodetic networks based on extra-terrestrial positioning
techniques for the definition of national territorial sea baselines.
Please note that the above list is far from exhaustive and that other
hydrographic and geodetic issues relating to maritime boundary delimitation
can be considered as suitable for submission, in this case, with a particular
emphasis on error estimation procedures and methodologies.
The deadline for the submission of Abstracts is 1 July 2000.
The deadline for the submission of final manuscripts is 1 November 2000.
The Journal of Marine Geodesy is a peer-review scientific periodical. All
submissions to this Special Issue will be also submitted to the regular
peer-review process undergone by all other articles contained in regular
issues.
Instructions to authors for the preparation of abstracts and papers can
be found at the web site of the Journal of Marine Geodesy:

I would greatly appreciate it if you could circulate this message among
other colleagues with a potential interest in these scientific subjects
and this Special Issue.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if
I can be of any assistance.
Sincerely,
Galo Carrera
Editor, Journal of Marine Geodesy
