Hello to this new group. I admit to a sort of shy pride at being "in on"
the beginning of a list... and so I'm happy to introduce myself briefly,
too.
I'm a PhD candidate in Arts & Humanities at the University of Texas at
Dallas. I've come here in my middle age by way of an MDiv from the (happily
progressive) Iliff School of Theology, and a rather sketchily acquired BA
in communications. Along the way, my careers read like someone consciously
trying out for an author's dustjacket: I've been an actress, singer,
proofreader, cocktail waitress, pre-school teacher, editor, a UCC minister
for four years, and a bunch of other jobs I don't recall offhand.
Meanwhile,my husband and I have also reared two children (now 21 and 19),
and, so far, have never been bored.
Current projects include the impending dissertation ("A Rhetoric of the
Sexual Soul: Feminist Theory and God-Talk in Real/Religious Life");
directing a reader's theatre production of a play I've written, to be done
at Baylor University's Art & Soul Conference in February; and assisting a
local Unitarian Universalist church with worship training for laity.
Mostly, though, I plan to spend the winter reading Kristeva, Cixous,
Wittgenstein, Barthes, Louisa May Alcott, Margaret Fuller--and the gentle
thoughts of those who post to this list.
Cheers,
Christine Tata
