PhD Studentship

Department of Mechanical Engineering
University of Wales Swansea

"Evaluation of non-intrusive mixing processes"

In association with a industrial partner, the department is looking for
a talented graduate to undertake an industrially driven research project
in partnership with an engineering company.

The project
To carry out experimental investigation and computer modelling of novel
mixing processes. The technology is brand new and used to mix paint and
other complex fluids without opening the transport container to the
atmosphere. This has significant environmental benefits when compared to
standard packaging of viscous fluids, and a large quantity of waste is
avoided. Several companies are using this new technology, and the
project aims to improve the performance of the mixing process.

The benefits
· A scholarship of £6500pa plus fees paid. There is an industrial
'bonus' of approximately £2000pa available to the right candidate.
· Study in a world class engineering faculty.
· Live in a city next to the sea with excellent social, sporting and
outdoor activities.
· Travel to conferences in Europe and possibly further.
· Gain valuable skills including knowledge of Fluent, the world leading
computational fluid dynamics software. This will guarantee you a good
job when you graduate.
· Flexible hours, interesting work and a good supervisor.

The person
An engineering, science, mathematics or computer science graduate.
No specific skills required, except the ability to set your own targets,
be flexible in your approach and to learn quickly. Current MSc students
are welcome to apply.
