What would be the effect of modelling a pendulum impact into a plastic
composite structure (when displacement is expected to be in the region of
100mm on a structure whose maximum dimension is just over 1000mm) by a
linear method.
Should geometric non-linear analysis be used?
As composites tend to fail explosively is it wise to assume that if strain
values are below its ultimate value the material will still be in a elastic
condition?
What is the rationale behind identifying the type of analysis that should be
undertaken?
I would be grateful for any responses with respect to this subject, or any
recommended references which anyone has found useful.
