CYBER SOCIETY LIVE: VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
CYBER SOCIETY LIVE IS MOVING FROM LISTBOT TO MAILBASE ON:
MONDAY APRIL 3,2000
Dear CyberSocietyLive listmembers:
As you all know, we have recently been experiencing difficulties with
Listbot at the University of Northumbria. Listmembers at the University of
Northumbria are not receiving messages from the list. Unfortunately, it
looks like these difficulties cannot be resolved.
Consequently, we are moving the entire CyberSocietyLive list to MAILBASE.
Mailbase is a national service in the UK which runs electronic discussion
lists for academics and support staff. Mailbase has a website at:
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/ <http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/>
Apart from providing a better service than listbot, the other main advantage
of Mailbase is that list messages do not contain advertising. We have
already set up the new cyber-society-live website and moderated discussion
list at Mailbase. The webpage of the new cyber-society-live list can be
found at: http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/lists/cyber-society-live/
You can join the new list at the above website. However, our advice is to
do NOTHING. We will transfer all current CyberSocietyLive members over to
the new cyber-society-live list in the coming week.
So, when you receive some information about the new list from Mailbase, do
not be surprised. You will already be signed up to the new list after that.
However, some emails on the current list do not disclose their owners names.
This is a difficulty since Mailbase requires an email PLUS a name to
register. We will try to get around this problem at our end. On the other
hand, don't be too surprised if you find that you have been signed up as Ada
Lovelace or Charles Babbage.
If you have not received an email informing you that you have been signed up
to the new Mailbase list by next Friday, 31 March, 2000, please contact us
direct and we will put you on the new list.
PLEASE NOTE: THE LAST MESSAGES TO THE LISTBOT CYBERSOCIETYLIVE LIST WILL BE
POSTED NEXT FRIDAY, 31 MARCH, 2000.
FROM MONDAY 3 APRIL, 2000 MESSAGES TO THE CYBERSOCIETYLIVE LIST WILL BE SENT
FROM MAILBASE TO MEMBERS SIGNED UP ON THE NEW LIST ONLY.
WE HOPE TO SEE YOU ON THE NEW CYBER-SOCIETY-LIVE LIST!!!!
Any questions or queries can be sent directly to us on:
