Centre for Technology, Innovation and Culture
The Centre for Technology, Innovation and culture (TIK Centre) is a
interdisiplinary research centre associated with the Faculty of Social
Sciences at the University of Oslo. The purpose of the centre is research
and higher education in the field of Science, Technology and Society (STS).
The research is focussing on the interactions and interfaces between
science, technology, economics, politics and culture. The projects of the
centre are organized around six broad and partially overlapping themes:
modernity and identity, democracy and power, risk and environment,
organization and leadership, economic growth and development, globalization
and regionalization. TIK has a permanent academic staff of nine from the
humanities and the social sciences. For the time being the centre has ca 20
Ph. D. students.
The candidate will be formally employed as a doctoral student at the
University of Oslo for a period of 4 years, and must therefore meet the
criteria for admission, its requirements for the award of a doctoral
degree, and the rights and responsibilities associated with such a position.
Applicants should have advanced postgraduate level qualifications, such as
a M.Phil, MSc or hovedfag, demonstrated aptitude for research (previous
research experience or publications would be considered an asset). They
should also produce a project description (maximum 10 pages) containing a
brief description of the theme of their thesis; empirical background,
theoretical perspectives and methodological design.
The appointment will begin on or about January 1, 2001. Basic salary NOK
253.831 (ltr.34) before tax. Enquiries regarding administrative and
