                         ASSESS: SPSS USERS' GROUP
             14th ANNUAL MEETING, FRIDAY 23rd FEBRUARY 2001
                      ST WILLIAM'S COLLEGE, YORK, UK

*** Postponed from 10 November 2000 due to floods ***

The annual meeting of ASSESS, the SPSS Users Group, will take place on
Friday, 23rd February 2001 at St William's College, York, U.K.

ASSESS is the user group for SPSS, a computer package for analysing and
presenting data (the group is completely independent of the manufacturers
of the software, and is run by users for users). It organises an annual
one-day conference, and other events. There is no membership subscription.
Students pay reduced rates for attendance at these meetings (postgraduate
students only).

The meeting is open to all current users of SPSS and to anyone interested in
SPSS.

Come along to

   * hear SPSS users talk about applications, problems and solutions
   * hear the latest news from SPSS UK staff about product developments
   *  participate in workshops
   * exchange ideas with other SPSS users.

St William's College is on College Street opposite the eastern end of York
Minster, less than ten minutes walk from York railway station or a few
minutes walk from pay-and-display car parks just outside the city walls.
The conference rooms are all up a single, reasonably wide staircase (there
is no lift). Accommodation lists are obtainable from one of the Tourist
Information Centres in York (01904 621756 or 554488).

IN THIS PROGRAMME (may be subject to alteration)

Welcome and introduction to the meeting by Paul Callow (Chair,
         ASSESS), University of Cambridge.
"Improving profitability using SPSS " by Keith Widdop, Development
         Manager, Thomas Cook.
"Letting the Genie out of the bottle: targeting using logistic
regression" by Simon Dunkley, Harte-Hanks Europe.
"A practical management information problem in SPSS: reporting periods
of time in 'working days'" by Adrian Lewis, South Gloucestershire
         Social Services.
     "SPSS News" by SPSS staff.
Demonstrations of new products by SPSS UK Ltd staff.
"Communicating statistical results" by Nicole Huyghe, MORPACE
          International Ltd.
"Disastrous data? Knock it into shape" by Paul Callow, University of
          Cambridge.
      Annual General Meeting of ASSESS
      Informal discussion time.

Registration and coffee will start at 9.45 am. Papers and other events will
run from 10.15 am to 5.00 pm. Morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea are
included in the registration fee. A timetable, map and other details will
be sent to delegates in advance of the meeting.

DON'T DELAY! These meetings are usually heavily subscribed and the capacity
of the venue is limited. In the event of over subscription, existing
members and those booking early will have priority. However, those turned
down for this reason will be placed on the priority list for the November 2001
meeting (and their cheques returned, of course).

If you are staying in York overnight you should book accommodation as
soon as possible, because it will be school half term _and_ the Jorvik
Viking Festival.

See our website http://assess.derby.ac.uk/ for other information about
ASSESS.
