Anyone interested in teaching in Canada? From the archives listserv. Have
not asked permission to repost but hope the poster will not mind as it *is*

Subject: Faculty Positions at SLAIS/UBC

The School of Library, Archival and Information Studies at the University
of British Columbia invites applications for two full-time Assistant
Professor tenure-track positions in its Master of Library and Information
Studies (MLIS) program to begin July 1, 2001 (subject to final budgetary
approval).

One position will focus on teaching and research in bibliographic control
and organization of information. The second will focus on reference and
information services in print and electronic environments. Preference will
be given to candidates who are also able to teach and conduct research in
one or more of the following areas: systems theory and application,
information-seeking behaviour, information literacy, knowledge management,
and competitive intelligence.

Candidates should be committed to excellence in teaching, research, and
service in an interdisciplinary environment. Applicants must hold a
Ph.D. or equivalent in Library and Information Studies/Science or a
related field, or anticipate completion within one year of
appointment; continuation of appointment after July 2002 is conditional on
completion.

In addition, applicants must provide strong evidence of their teaching
ability and/or potential for excellence in teaching and continued
professional growth; of their skills to incorporate information
technologies into research and course content and delivery as
appropriate; of their knowledge of state-of-the-art technologies for
information access, retrieval, organization, and dissemination; of their
ability to conduct research and engage in scholarly activity; and possess
a publications record appropriate to their experience.
The salary is competitive, and commensurate with qualifications and
experience.

In addition to the MLIS program, the School offers a Master of Archival
Studies program, a multidisciplinary Master of Arts in Children's
Literature program, a joint M.A/M.Ed program with Education in
teacher-librarianship (approval pending), and Ph.D. programs in Library
and Information Studies and Archival Studies (approval pending). For
additional information about the School and these positions, visit our web
site at http://www.slais.ubc.ca.

The closing date for applications is January 19, 2001 or until the
positions are filled. We will hold informal preliminary interviews with
interested candidates at the ALISE conference in Washington, D.C. in
January 2001.

Application materials should include a cover letter stating qualifications
for the position, and include an outline of a candidate's projected
research agenda and statement on philosophy of teaching; a complete
curriculum vitae; and the names and contact information (including email
address), of three referees.

Address enquiries and applications to the Chair, Faculty Selection
Committee:
