Dear All,
I also remember seeing large numbers of skinned toad remains around
stream banks in Cambridgeshire during spawning time, but this was a long
time ago, when toads were still common in (now) agribusiness East
Anglia. I too concluded that this was the work of birds - there were
usually herons hanging about, but I only ever saw them take fish and
eels.
