Dear Wiggies
I'm currently analysing a 'biographical novel' ('Gefesselte Rebellin'
by Barbara Krause), and am looking for similar texts - anyone out
there who can help?
The novel is a 'fictionalised' account of Brigitte Reimann's life - the
names of her husbands, family members etc have been changed,
but anecdotal evidence from Reimann's former editor and from her
second husband has been used, and the text is supported by
numerous italicised quotations from Reimann's diaries and literary
works. A rather dangerous blurring of fact and fiction, life and work
is the result (and the romantic kitsch nearly had me throwing up
my well-deserved Xmas chocolate treats...!). Has anyone come
across anything similar?
My general concern is the obsessive interest in the author's life
which seems to be marginalising her literary output.
Thanks in advance for any help and a Happy New Year to all
Helen
