One thing that I don't think has been mentioned is that each institution
should have a Data Protection Officer, who amongst other things, deals
with DP related requests and carries out the necessary administrative
work for the DPR Office. I think the most sensible thing to do is make
sure that any advice, review procedures etc. should eminate from the
DPO - though you may have to prompt! Of course some webmasters may have
been lumbered with this glorious position in addition to everything
else, which is unfortunate since the REAL hassles with the new act are,
I think, going to be in the world of paper based data.
