Leeds Metropolitan University Environment Week - October 23 - 27, 2000

for up-to-the-minute news and free registration visit
www.lmuenvironment.co.uk <http://www.lmuenvironment.co.uk>

------------------------------------------------

As part of LMU's continuing efforts to improve its environmental
performance, the university has put together a programme of events that
will highlight its environmental impacts and demonstrate ways in which
we can all make a difference. The event is kindly being sponsored by
Yorkshire Electricity, Yorkshire Water, Premier Paper, Xerox and Nifes
Consulting Group, with additional support from Addleshaw Booth and Co,
Oce, Northern Spirit and Riley.

All events are free to attend - please forward this email on to friends,
colleagues and associates who will be interested in attending

The week will comprise a series of presentations, displays, visits,
seminars, competitions and other events aimed at students, staff and
invited guests on the following themes:

Mon Oct 23 - Estates, energy and water, Opened by Deputy
Vice-Chancellor, Dr Geoff Hitchins with a keynote speech from Prof.
Chris Baines, and presentations from Yorkshire Water, Yorkshire
Electricity, and Nifes. To be held in the Brunswick Exhibition
Area. By attending you will learn why LMU chooses to use Green
Electricity, manages its water use, uses energy efficient lighting and
has built one of the most energy efficient buildings in the UK - its new
Learning Centre.

Tues Oct 24 - Green Procurement - Supplier Fair in Brunswick Exhibition
Area, with Supplies Team, Xerox, Broadstock Office Furniture, Yorkshire
Water, Business in the Environment, Yorkshire Electricity, and many
other university suppliers. To be held in the Brunswick Exhibition Area
- Improve your knowledge of procurement, greener products, the LMU Green
Purchasing Policy and how you can make a difference through what you
buy! This day is particularly relevant to procurement managers, budget
holders, buyers and environmental managers.

Weds Oct 25 - Waste and Recycling - with an exhibition from students of
3-D design, Faculty of Health and Environment, and presentations from
Xerox and UK Waste, amongst others. To be held in the Brunswick
Exhibition Area. Come and find out just how much we throw away at the
university each week, and how LMU is tackling its waste issues to make a
real difference. We are hoping to incorporate visits to a local landfill
site into this day, with our waste contractor, UK Waste.

Thurs Oct 26th - Sustainable Transport - with presentations and displays
from WS Atkins, Travelwise, Northern Spirit, Vauxhall (tbc), Yorkshire
Water, and many others. To be held at Beckett Park. This event will
provide you with all the information you need to travel to and around
the university's campuses in a more sustainable way. It will also
include a presentation from WS Atkins who conducted the recent travel
survey at LMU, LMU's Green Travel Plan. You will also have the
opportunity to try out a dual-fuel car - but please register at
http://www.lmuenvironment.co.uk <http://www.lmuenvironment.co.uk >
