In order to model the potential for pedestrian movement, we have
developed
a program called 'Fathom' that analyses the visual fields within the
whole
layout of a building or urban area. We also undertake detailed surveys
of
pedestrian movement flows and we have found that this kind of analysis
correlates well with observed flows because pedestrians are so
sensitive to
lines of sight and visual access when navigating in an environment.
The
program uses a technique called visibility graph analysis, which looks
at
how visually accessible any point is within a whole building or area.
Some
examples of visibility graph analysis can be found on our website at

Re: Modelsfor Pedestrian Movement:
Dear All,
Once again I wonder if I can get some of the usual useful feedback. I
would like to know of any modelling tools available to allow for the
modelling of pedestrian movements especially in shopping malls or
other areas.
Regards.--
