Last week's events represented a rare, albeit impromptu, experiment in
driver behaviour and household travel - what do people do when fuel is
rationed?
The Transportation Research Group, believing this to be a unique
opportunity to better understand issues surrounding car dependence, is
conducting a questionnaire survey across the country.
With a decision to proceed with such a survey only made late last Thursday,
needless to say this has been and continues to be a monumental and chaotic
task within our research group.
We have nearly produced 5000 printed copies for distribution in Hampshire
and Wiltshire over the next three days and a number of other people in
different parts of the country are considering whether they will also be
able to assist and distribute locally to them.
A web version of the questionnaire is also available via
http://www.trg.soton.ac.uk
We have issued a press release and a number of avenues for national/local
press/media coverage are being pursued.
We would encourage anyone on the UTSG list to complete the survey and would
greatly appreciate any efforts to publicise that the survey is taking
place. Sampling for the survey is being taken account of - we are not just
asking transport professionals to take part!!
Regards,
Glenn Lyons
