The contrasts are only computed once, the first time they are encountered,
with the contrast/ESS & SPM{t}/SPM{F} images (respectively) being saved on
disk. Thus, a contrast should display substantially quicker when
re-visiting it.
To answer your actual question, there is no facility for re-thresholding
contrasts within the SPM results section. Originally this was a design
"feature" to discourage fishing expeditions. We have had plans to
incorporate re-thresholding (height & spatial extent) and even contrast
switching within the results section, but we simply haven't had time!
