** Developing and Enhancing Learning Opportunities in Tertiary Education
**
(Key speaker: Professor Diana Laurillard)

-Collaborative Strategies

A Call for Papers
(EXTENDED DEADLINE: 24 MARCH 2000)

Conference Date: Saturday 3rd June 2000

0930 - 1530

Sir Henry Wood Lecture Theatre,
Jordanhill Campus,
University of Strathclyde.

The University of Strathclyde would like to invite you to participate in
a conference, which aims to bring together academic staff and lecturers
to share, deepen and extend their knowledge of strategies in managing
learning in Tertiary Education and to promote collaboration between
institutions.

Universities and colleges of further education in Scotland today are
juggling with the demands placed on them by increased numbers of
students, increased demand for evidence of the quality of the learning
they manage and changing conceptions of the purposes of education. In
addition they are challenged by technologies that open up opportunities
for presenting information and engaging in dialogue with students in new
ways. Adopting an orientation towards collaboration is attractive as it
combines the sharing of creative and intellectual capital with economies
of scale. This conference aims to bring together and promote
collaboration between colleagues in this area.

The conference will be opened by Professor D. Laurillard of the Open
University whose research studies in the evaluation of educational
technology and contribution to academic and political debates concerning
the future directions of University Education place her in a unique
position to identify the opportunities and challenges facing centres of
student learning today.

A selection of papers will be published including keynote speeches.

Themes

We are currently calling for papers in the following areas:

o technology based course management and delivery;

o promoting discourse and participation;

o empowering the student and developing independence.

o submitted papers;

o poster presentations;

o workshops, practicums, case study.

The Steering Committee would welcome a wide array of offers of

proposals for workshops, practical demonstrations, case study discussion
etc on any of the conference themes.

In making choices amongst offers, the Steering Committee will be seeking
a balance of formats to ensure that participants can experience varied
forms of interaction within the conference format. All proposals will
be considered by the Steering Committee.
