THE NATIONAL SUBJECT CENTRE FOR GEOGRAPHY, EARTH AND
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES
THREE POSTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PLYMOUTH
CONTEXT
The UK Higher Education Funding Councils are currently establishing a
Learning and Teaching Support Network (LTSN) which will consist of 24
Subject Centres. Each one will have the aim of promoting and
disseminating best practice in learning and teaching (including the use of
C&IT) within a particular discipline or set of cognate disciplines. The
successful bid for the Subject Centre for Geography, Earth and
Environmental Sciences was prepared by a group of senior academics
under the leadership of the relevant professional bodies and subject
associations. Interdiscipliary collaboration was a central feature of the
bid's preparation and will be a continuing hallmark of the new Centre's
work, which will be based at the University of Plymouth. The Centre will
become a major national and international hub in the exchange of
knowledge on learning and teaching across the three disciplines. Its
activities will include: conferences, workshops, a news service, databases
of good practice, registers of expertise, good practice guides and an
enquiry/advisory service.
THE POSTS
Applications are invited for three positions outlined below. It is likely that
the successful candidates will possess a good Honours degree in one of
the Centre's disciplines or in a relevant cognate area. A background in
teaching, staff development or in higher education projects (e.g. TLTP,
FDTL) would be appropriate. Good interpersonal skills and a commitment
to innovation in teaching are essential. These positions are initially for a
