in the representation of Britishness

Conference Aims
To explore English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh nationalism as well as the
concept of a single British nation.
To discuss regional, ethnic and class cultures and their representations;
the division between North and South and the myth of Middle England.
To assess the role of the media in representing, confirming and changing
national and regional identities.
To analyse the role of history, heritage, religion, ethnicity and gender in
defining and shaping particular versions of Britishness.
To examine international and expatriate perspectives on a British nation.
