The British Heart Foundation leads the fight against heart and circulatory disease. The Charity is the largest independent funder of medical research into the causes and prevention of the UK's biggest killer; it provides patient support and actively promotes healthy lifestyle messages.
As Senior Communications Officer you will:
* Play a key role in establishing the public relations strategy for our work in funding research, cardiac care and the prevention of coronary heart disease
* Establish effective media links, providing accurate information, advice and a rapid response to press enquiries
* Develop a strong working relationship with BHF-funded researchers and the BHF Medical Division
* Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive and integrated communications programme for the Foundation
* Manage the work of two Communications Officers
The person:
* Your are a successful media and PR professional with at least 4 years' experience. Ideally you have worked in a scientific or health-related environment and can identify the main points - and news value - of the most complex research papers
* A skilled writer, you have a proved ability to sell-in stories to the media
* You have impeccable judgement, with an understanding of the constraints and realities of communicating information about medical research issues
