It seems that you and I always have very interesting disagreements that
end up revealing subtle agreements. We bump heads and manage to come up
smiling--if a little dizzy, too.
Here is one of the points of agreement: rhetoricians (the formal
professional scholarly tribe) do not always apply their art to
themselves in creative ways. It seems that all professions get into
intellectual ruts from time to time. This is true of design, as well.
Getting rhetoricians to think about design is more difficult than
getting designers to think about rhetoric. Perhaps you will be
pleasantly annoyed by my article in "Philosophy and Rhetoric."
