For our perspective on this, which has influenced Parliamentary discussion
that led to the decision to set up the Task Force, please see the April 99
report on our web site at:
http://www.parliament.uk/post/report.htm
There was also a Parliamentary debate on this subject around that time, as
well as at least one question in the House of Lords. A quick search of
online Hansard at the same URL as our pages, would bring these up for anyone
interested.
When Parliament returns, the Astronomy and Space Environment All-Party
Group, to which Martin Rees is adviser, will hold a meeting to discuss the
report and whether Parliamentary 'urging' is needed to carry it's
recommendations forward. If list members are interested, I will post
further details when the date of this meeting is determined.
