Developing Cultural competence in the NHS
I am writing to ask for you help in identifying the range of tools for
assessing and developing cultural competence in organisations. I know that
many of you have considered and addressed these issues and it would be
helpful to know what materials and tools you have come across in the course
of this. At this stage I not asking for a quality or experience assessment
– I simply want to try to identify the materials that are about and in use.
I would be grateful if you could let me know the full reference or contact
person for any material you are using (or have used in the recent past),
which fulfils the following criteria:
· Addresses race equality, either specifically or as part of a wider
equalities framework;
· Relates to either service delivery, employment/workforce, or both;
· Is in the form of a tool, set of standards or system for
organisational assessment or audit;
· Is written down;
· Is both published and unpublished.
Please could you send your list of materials (if possible with contents
list/page), to me by the end of November.
I am carrying out this trawl in collaboration with the CRE who are also
requesting similar information from their contacts. We will then be in a
better position to review the range of material available and begin to make
some judgements about its usefulness, gaps, and what could and should be
promoted more widely.
