CALL FOR PAPERS
This multi-professional research symposium is being organised by the Royal
College of General Practitioners' Research Group in conjunction with the
College's Health Inequalities Group. The symposium is supported by Boots
The Chemists as part of its support for the College's Research Paper of the
Year Award. It will be of interest to a wide range of professional groups.
The purpose of this symposium is to receive presentations on research into
all aspects of inequalities in health and to look at practical issues and
challenges facing primary care and other researchers working in this field.
The day will be divided into a number of strands, some of which will be for
oral and poster presentations on work in progress and recently completed
studies. A number of commissioned practical workshops will also be offered
to develop existing or acquire new skills in appropriate methodologies and
multi-agency working across health communities.

Professor Graham Watt, Department of General Practice at the University of
Glasgow
Professor Hilary Graham, Programme Director of the ESRC Health Variations
Programme
The programme for the day will be designed to be of interest to researchers
at all levels, from beginners through to experienced researchers.
Abstracts are invited on all aspects of research into health inequalities.
Topics welcomed include:
* Variations in health including access , service provision and
vulnerable groups
* Methodological issues around research into social aspects of health
care
* Educational research in addressing health inequalities
* Widening the access to research - for patients, practitioners and
the public
* Who does research into social aspects of care and why?
* Ethical and patient consent issues
* Means of assessing inequalities in health
* The National Service Frameworks and their role in addressing health
inequalities.
* The role of IT in improving inequalities in health
* Health economics and inequalities in health
Abstracts for oral and poster presentations are sought
