Hi Anjum and George,
I worked on The Liverpool Patient Profiling project for a couple of years. This work is an extension of that project run by the PCG and funded by HAZ. The Liverpool project worked very hard tyo try to get the PCG to take this onboard and this is the culmination of the Liverpool project's efforts. The differences between the two projects atre quite glaring. Now we will be working across upto 22 practices with 10 in the first wave. The amount of information that we can collect is therefore limited. A much larger part of this project will be training and informing staff. I also want to see a lot of effort put into using the data.
I'm interested in expanding the ethnicity categories beyond the 16 (+1) 2001 categories. The country of birth variable also gives us a more detailed breakdown of the ethnic group.

The National Ethnic Health Project Coordinator at the DOH funded a project
pilot on ethnic monitoring/patient profiling in primary care, Liverpool - I
understand they did some extensive work. Are you building on this work or
linking with them? Also, Birmingham have already started rolling this out in
primary care there. PMA Associate, John Shaecter is leading on this.
Definitely worth looking at the categories and processes they use. Finally,
Redbridge and Waltham Forest have started doing similar project - John is
also leading there.
If any of this is unfamiliar to you let me know - I'll have to dig out the
phone numbers from somewhere.
George I have not seen the work we did around here. Copy is always useful.
Anjum.
