As some of you may know, the Medieval Music & Arts Foundation has
been formally incorporated as a government-sanctioned non-profit
charity.
The largest resource the Foundation presently supports is the
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document for the rec.music.early
newsgroup. That project continues to grow, with a variety of
contributors, and we are always seeking more. In some cases, our
discussions & resources have become much more detailed than the
preliminary "FAQ" level, and so there is unlimited room to grow.
Along with the EM FAQ, the Medieval Music & Arts Foundation has
taken over related resources which I had been developing online
for the past several years. These have different focuses, including
world & contemporary music.
A big part of our intended mission is to support medieval musicians,
and so I would like to develop a series of "Featured Artist"
presentations outside of the FAQ project, where we can include
pictures and sound clips in a limited-run article spotlight. The
first such feature was on the Speculum ensemble of Spain.
I would like to solicit other prospective medieval music groups.
We are presently in no position to offer direct financial support,
although that is a long-term goal, but we can offer a free web
page and exposure on the front page of our thousands-of-visitors-a-day
site. Once the feature has lapsed for us, you would be welcome to
use the designed web pages and sound/graphics files however you
like.
Since this project is not under the "FAQ" umbrella, the editorial
policy is different. In the case of the FAQ, the editorial policy
is all-inclusive. In the present case, I specifically want musicians
who are both relatively unknown, and who work in more sophisticated
or provocative areas of medieval music repertory and interpretation.
I am only too happy to interpret "medieval music" broadly here,
but it must be medieval in some sense, and with something of an
intellectual focus.
If you are interested, please reply by email. I hope to be able
to prepare a series of such features.
