POSTS IN THE DATA ARCHIVE

The Data Archive houses the largest collection of accessible
computer-readable data in the social sciences and humanities in the United
Kingdom. It is a national resource centre, disseminating data throughout the
United Kingdom and, by arrangement with other national archives,
internationally.

Applications are invited for the following posts for immediate appointment:

User Services Director (Ref. no. O/757)

A social scientist with management experience is sought to head up the User
Services division of the Data Archive.  The Director of User Services is
responsible for maintaining and improving the flow of data for secondary
analysis for the UK's social scientific community.  Candidates should have a
postgraduate degree in the social sciences or related discipline, with an
emphasis on quantitative analysis and significant management experience,
with the ability to think strategically, develop goals and identify and
implement tasks to achieve them.  Appointment will be within the range
£28,275 - £36,740 per annum.

Depositor Services Manager (Ref. no. O/756)

The post-holder will play a pivotal role within the division, managing the
depositor service teams and ensuring that datasets are prepared for
secondary use and preservation efficiently and effectively.  Candidates
should have a postgraduate degree or equivalent experience in the social
sciences, with an emphasis on quantitative analysis and be experienced in
the creation and or secondary analysis of large and complex datasets,
preferably including one or more of the key data series currently held by
the Data Archive.  Appointment will be within the range £26,216 - £30,967
per annum.

Senior Programmer (Ref. no. O/755)

This post will concentrate on back end systems for Web based data location,
browsing and dissemination services. Candidates should have a good honours
degree or equivalent qualification, excellent communication skills and be
able to lead a small team.  Experience of developing distributed systems
and/or SQL databases will be a requirement. Appointment will be within the
range £26,216 - £30,967 per annum.

User Services Officer (Ref. no. O/759)

A social scientist with quantitative experience is sought to enhance the
User Services section of the Data Archive.  The postholder would play a key
role, assisting users in locating appropriate datasets, ensuring access
conditions are met and providing advice on dataset content and analysis.
The postholder would also be involved in developing value-added products
based on Archive data holdings and improving Archive user services
generally.  Candidates should have a postgraduate degree or equivalent
experience in the social sciences, with an emphasis on quantitative analysis
and be experienced in the secondary analysis of large and complex datasets,
preferably including one or more of the key data series currently held by
the Data Archive.  Appointment will be within the range £19,482 - £25,213
per annum.


 Promotions and Publicity Officer (Ref. no. O/758)

A dynamic self-starter with a degree and background in media,
communications, and/or publicity and promotion is sought to design and
implement a creative multi-pronged strategy for promotion of the Data
Archive within the UK and internationally.  Candidates should be educated to
degree level with a background in media, communications and/or publicity and
an understanding of social science, data use and secondary analysis and a
good understanding of the UK academic research infrastructure are desirable.
Appointment will be within the range £19,482 - £25,213 per annum.
