At this time of year the menace of Autoreplies to listservers becomes
even more obvious. I had 13 such messages within seconds of posting a
message to a certain list yesterday (and very soon I'll have more!). I
get so many autoreplies in a year from one certain lady, who shall be
nameless, that I wonder of she is EVER in her office.
If you are one of the people who sends such replies, could you ask your
organisation to find some way of ensuring that your Autoreply does not
go to listservers? Or perhaps you could find a way of sending the
message only *once* to each person who sends an email. (I know of at
least one subscriber who can do this.) This is not simply saving me
trouble (I am a pretty tolerant recipient, BTW) it also ensures that
your id is not revealed to thousands of people who subscribe to the
lists where you lurk.
