Advance notification:
The AUKML annual conference will takes place this year on 13-15 October.
THEME: Work Smarter not Harder ***************************************
Work smarter and play harder at this years AUKML conference in cosmopolitan
*Leicester, a city enriched with Eastern and Western cultures. Home to the
biggest dinosaur in Europe, birthplace of the discovery of DNA
fingerprinting and the leading institution in space research in Europe.
Partners / spouses stay free at our chosen venue the Holiday inn - which
boasts a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, whirlpool, beautician and gym.
Reduced conference prices this year reflect the slightly cheaper cost of the
East Midlands. Evening entertainment includes a live band. Our reception on
Saturday evening is at the Challenger learning centre which will become part
of the National Science Space Centre opening next year. A guided walk on
Sunday will reveal a little of the City's history. Leicester can trace it's
history back to the iron age. Just over the road from the hotel is a roman
Jewry wall. Did you also know that Leicester also has Europe's largest
open air market, and is the birthplace of Thomas Cook, Gary Lineaker,
Englebert Humperdink and the Elephant man?
**************************************
A full programme and booking form will be posted out to all AUKML members
in August and details of the programme will appear on our web site
www.aukml.org.uk in the next month too. Speakers so far are from: the
Home Office, European Special Librarian of the year, a panel of UK regional
newspaper librarians and the BBC. Inspired by the SLA News Division we ran
our first successful silent auction of promotional goods from at last years
conference, and we will run this fun event again. So come along to get your
signed cartoons, books etc. and to network and learn how to work smarter.
