I have just heard that BT will be making ACR (Anonymous Call Rejection)
available from March 1st 2000 at a cost of GBP 9.99 per quarter.
ACR enables subscribers to automatically reject telephone calls where
the caller has actively withheld their telephone number. Subscribers may
wish to do this to block sales calls or, more importantly, to block
nuisance or malicious calls where the number is often withheld.
This does mean, though, that if your company has, quite legitimately,
set up its telephone system to automatically withhold its number you may
find that your calls to some colleagues and clients are rejected. You
will need to find out from your manager and IT department if it is
acceptable to release the company telephone number in these circumstance
and, if so, how that can be achieved.
