Oxford University Libraries Automation Service needs to fill three posts for
a two year project called JAFER (Java Access For Electronic Resources) from
October 2000 to October 2002. The appointments will be fixed term for two
years.
JAFER is funded by the JISC/DNER programme for improving access to resources
in Higher Education. It will produce an easy to use toolkit enabling the
building of portals to information sources and information services by
library staff who do not have a detailed knowledge of the communication
protocols involved, such as Z39.50. The project will work closely with
other leading edge projects both locally within Oxford and at a National and
International level. The toolkit itself is intended to be made available as
Open Source through such means as Apache and Linux distributions. Further
information on the DNER programme can be found at http://www.jisc.ac.uk/dner
and on JAFER at http://www.lib.ox.ac.uk/jafer.

and internet development on either NT or Unix would be highly desirable.
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
CLERICAL GRADE 4 Salary £13,532 - £15,664
The administrative assistant will be responsible for assisting the R+D
Manager and for administering the project and arranging workshops and
presentations. Excellent communication and organisational skills would be
