To everyone coming to the MELCOM meeting in Cambridge tomorrow.
Last night - Monday evening - all MELCOM participants were given an invitation
to the Reception and Buffet Lunch for the British Kuwaiti Friendship Society
Book Prize in Middle Eastern Studies Award Ceremony on Wednesday lunchtime
between 1.15 and 2.15. This event will be co-hosted by Sir Dennis Walters on
behalf of the BKFS and His Excellency Mr Khalid al-Duwaisan, the Kuwaiti , the
Kuwaiti Ambassador, at the Garden House Hotel.
There are some practical points: The Garden House Hotel is some 10-15 minutes
walk from the University Library and because of the impossibility of parking,
walking is probably the best way to do it.
As you can see, this makes rather squeezed timing between the 2 parts of our
MELCOM agenda (also the buffet may well not get going until the later part of
the proceedings). Nevertheless, the invitation is sincere and cordial, and as
BRISMES organises the submission of books for the prize and finds many of the
referees, this is in some measure a BRISMES occasion.
Because of security at the event, we are asked to submit a list of names in
advance so that people can be issued with BRISMES badges. Therefore, please can
anyone who would like to accept this invitation reply to me by email by the end
of today, Tuesday? PLEASE REMEMBER TO REPLY DIRECTLY TO ME AND NOT TO THE
LIST!
(If anyone wishes to stay in the University Library for lunch, there is still
the possibility of a hot meal or a sandwich lunch which can be purchased over
the counter in the public tea room.)
