National electronic Library for Health
8 November, LAHQ, London
An Executive Briefing organised by The Library Association
Recent government policy on health has challenged the NHS to develop modern
patient focussed services, to work across boundaries, and to make greater
use of technology to ensure quality and efficiency.
The focus on electronic delivery of information, clinical governance and
support for lifelong learning for clinical staff, place great challenges on
NHS libraries. How can they best serve the public? What use can they make of
IT to improve the quality and efficiency of their services? How can
librarians work more effectively across public, special and higher
education?
This briefing will set out recent policy in the NHS, and focus on two key
projects with the potential to transform NHS information and library
services. NHS Direct Online has established itself as a leading Web based
health information service for the public, with over 1,000,000 users a month
accessing its high quality material. The National electronic Library for
Health (NeLH), to be launched later this year, will provide a new level of
access to electronic information resources for NHS staff and the public.
Presentations will be led by the NHS Library Adviser and key staff who have
developed NHS Direct Online and the NeLH.
Who should attend?
Senior library and information professionals with an interest in health
information working within the public, higher education and health sectors.
