Hello everyone,
Back in April I asked the list for advice on how to carry out costings for
fee paying photocopying and literature searching services we were
introducing in our library.
I had a number of responses and one came from Dr Judith Broady-Preston, a
lecturer at the Department of Information and Library Studies at the
University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Dr Broady-Preston referred to an article
she wrote on costing services in 1997. I found this article to be extremely
useful since it gave me the "know-how" on how to carry out a costing
exercise.
I would recommend this article to anyone wanting information on this topic
and the reference is as follows:
BROADY, J (1997) Costing of bibliographic services. Journal of Librarianship
and Information Science 29(2): 89-94
We will be introducing our new service on the 1st August and the charges
will be as follows:
Photocopy per article sent by post £1.50
Photocopy per article sent by fax/and or immediate action £3.00
Literature Searching £5.00
Charges by other libraries for photocopying servicesby post ranged from 60p
to £3.50 per article.
Literature searching servce charges ranged from £3.00 to £50.00
Many thanks to all who replied to my request.
