I believe that we do need to start thinking about it, and what it implies in
terms of our current attitudes to mobile phone use. It seems to me that it
would be excellent for users to be able to consult the catalogue whilst
standing at the shelves, for example.
>From the look of what's on this website (thanks for giving us the URL, BTW)
we don't have to think too quickly, because it still needs a little bit of
work. Nonetheless, we need to anticipate such developments, and let system
suppliers know that we want them, rather than waiting till the ship has
sailed before we make a move.
Our rules against mobile phones are strict - we employ a library warden who
summarily ejects anyone caught using one in the library - but the day is
clearly coming when we have to rule against noise from mobile phones rather
than the use of them per se. With that in mind, I wouldn't think it
appropriate to invest any significant time or money in setting up a system
which blocks their use altogether.

Subject: WAP phones and Web pages
In the recent discussion on mobile phones someone mentioned
the WAP enabled
phones that can connect to the Net.
You can get an idea of how these will look from
http://www.gelon.net by
using the Wapalizer. Its a bit erratic.
Do we need to start thinking about Wapping our institutional
Web sites?
