COPAC: Free access to the merged catalogues of 19 UK and Irish
academic Research Libraries
A new version of the COPAC Web Interface has been released which
changes the way we deal with local holdings information. To improve
the clarity of the display we have moved local details to a separate
Local Holdings display. You access this by selecting a library name
from the Holdings field at the end of a Full Record.
*Real-time circulation data* is now available on this Local Holdings
display for some libraries. We can tell you which branch libraries
hold the document, what the classmark is, and whether the item is on
the shelf. If a document is on-loan we can usually tell you when it is
due back, and whether there are any reservations pending. This
information is available for all copies of a document held by a
particular library.
Circulation information is requested from the relevant library's local
system when you select the Local Holdings display. If a library does
not respond to our request because of network problems, local system
problems etc. we display the holdings details which are held centrally
on COPAC. This means a request for a Local Holdings display should
never fail.
Not all libraries are able to supply circulation data at the moment,
in which case the Local Holdings display provides access to the
details held centrally on COPAC. However, we have more libraries in
the pipeline and we expect the others to become available in the
future as library systems are upgraded or replaced.
COPAC is available at: http://copac.ac.uk/
