Here's a poser for you concerning copying images onto a website NOT owned by the university:-
A Library maintains digitised/scanned images for use in teaching;
Faculty member selects images for use in lectures, then decides to maintain them separately in his/her own website for future use in presentations to students.
The images on the library's database/archives come from different sources, e.g. copied from books, purchased from commercial or photographic resources, or were copied from Faculty members collections.
Is this not an abuse of copyright owned and then used without being licenced in this manner? Or is it considered Fair Use?
Your opinions would be much appreciated, will not be shared on the List unless permitted.
Sincere thanks
Alec H.
