The Library and Information Statistics Unit [LISU] will hold its next
Seminar at Loughborough on:

Managing for Value and Performance: Processes in Developing Library Plans
and Best Value

Venue: LISU, Loughborough University
Dates: 7-8 March 2000

Increasingly, library managers are faced with the imperatives of
sustaining, if not enhancing the quality and range of services whilst
deriving optimal value from scarce resources. More than ever before issues
of accountability and quality pervade the activity and the public library
sector has become accustomed to the formal detailing of strategies and the
measurement of performance to demonstrate the value and impact of what is
being achieved. Library Plans and Best Value are becoming familiar
'landmarks'.

How have managers addressed the situation in such changing conditions? What
have been the main challenges? What priorities have been identified? What
management information has been needed? What is the outlook for the future?
To what extent can new management techniques contribute? LISU has organised
this Seminar to help find answers to such questions and to enable
experiences of developing Library Plans and Best Value programmes to be
shared amongst senior managers. Don't miss it!
