List members may be aware that following some trials ingenta are now
offering 'a co-branded
BIDS/Freeserve CD-ROM, which will enable students to benefit from
Freeserve's
Internet access and content, and navigate seamlessly into the BIDS Academic
online
research service.' Moreover 'Students can now work away from their campus
networks using the Internet and still use their usernames and passwords to
access BIDS as if they were in the library'
Funny - I thought students have able to access BIDS and other resources from
off-campus for a few years now!
Is this going to give students the impression only ingenta offers academic
information on the Web? Will they bypass library Web pages and guidance?
They will, of course, still need to obtain Athens IDs at some stage.
