APOLOGIES FOR CROSS POSTINGS
PARTNERSHIPS IN HEALTH
Effective access models to higher education and National Health Service
libraries for health professionals and students.
The Information Management Research Institute (IMRI) within the School of
Information Studies at the University of Northumbria has been successful in
securing a grant from the British Library, under their Co-operation and
Partnership Programme.
Linda Banwell, Acting Director of IMRI, is the Project C-ordinator and Susan
Childs, of IMRI, is the Project Researcher.
Health professionals and students need seamless access to library and
information services (LIS) in support of their practice and education. The
higher education sector and the NHS are the primary providers of these LIS.
However a range of different factors can restrict access. If access is to be
improved, inter-sectoral collaboration and co-operation between these
sectors will be required. The North-East provides the conditions for a
representative case study of relevance to the whole of the UK.
The project aims to develop a range of models which would offer an
integrated approach for improving inter-sectoral collaboration to optimise
the use of LIS resources.
The Steering Group will contain representatives from libraries in both the
higher education and NHS sectors, i.e. the five universities in the local
area (Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria at Newcastle, Sunderland, Teesside),
local NHS trusts and health authorities (Freeman Hospital, Newcastle General
Hospital, Northumberland Health Authority, South Tees Medical Library),
Health Libraries North and the Northern & Yorkshire Library Advisory
Service, and from the British Library.
For further information please contact Susan Childs (details below) or
consult our Web page at http://is.northumbria.ac.uk/imri.
We will be gathering contextual data by studying relevant projects and
services throughout the UK which are addressing cross-sectoral issues. We
will be carrying out a literature search and drawing on the knowledge of
project members. However if you know of any un-published reports on this
topic or work in progress we would be pleased to hear from you.
With many thanks
Sue
