Chris
You didn't say whether you wanted average prices of adult, general, academic
or children's books.....but here goes with a few ideas.
Have you looked at the LISU site? They produce Average Prices of British/USA
Academic Books, but you have to purchase it. You could try ringing them as
they may help you.
http://www.lboro.ac.uk/departments/dis/lisu/public.html#abpi
They also produce the LIST, but the figures for average book prices are from
1998 so a bit old. Look under 'Booktrade'
http://info.lboro.ac.uk/departments/dils/lisu/list99/pub99.html
According to the annual Books & their Consumers report, the average price of
books increased during 1999 from £6.80 to £7 for adult books. It increased
from £3.45 to £3.60 for children's books.
I've also found a paperback prices survey in the Bookseller. Let me know if
you want some information on this.
Hope this helps
Best wishes
Simone
