Introduction to management skills
13 & 14 June, London


A two day practical introduction to the main areas of management relevant to
library and information work, with emphasis on managing oneself and others.

How will this event help you?

It will help you:
*	build on your strengths and understand your weak points as a manager
*	raise your awareness of your own and others' behaviour to improve
communication in management
*	help you enhance your practical management skills - motivation,
leadership, team building and personal skills (including assertiveness)
*	share ideas and experiences with others at a similar level

All sessions require a high level of involvement and participation and
learning is by observation and reflection.  You will be asked to complete a
questionnaire and to bring it with you to the workshop.

Who should attend?

You will need at least two years of post-qualification experience to both
benefit yourself and to contribute to others' learning.

Workshop leader:  
Sheila Ritchie is a consultant in the behavioural sciences applied to work.
A Chartered librarian, she works in the public and private sectors in the UK
and overseas, specialising in the development of management skills.

N.B. Please note that due to building work at LAHQ there will unfortunately
be no lifts available from 17th April until the end of September. Those
booking for Library Association courses should be aware that the only means
of access to all facilities at LAHQ during this period will be via stairs.
This could mean having to ascend and descend 43 stairs at least 7 times
during the day for coffee, lunch tea and comfort breaks. We appreciate that
this may cause some difficulty and apologise for any inconvenience that this
may cause.
