How will this event help you?
This workshop has been designed to provide a basic introduction to the
skills of information organisation in the context of library and information
services. It will provide a broad based framework built from principles and
practice that the participant can then take away and develop in their own
The workshop content is informed by the major international standards which
are used for knowledge organisation in libraries, including the
Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Dewey Decimal Classification and MARC
format for computerised cataloguing and thesaurus.
These tools are used in the workshop exercises. This allows you to develop
a basic understanding of the principles involved, which will then inform
your approach to information organisation back in the workplace.
