The KF are about to begin recruitment for the February SMP and applications
are invited for the RLG/NeLH Bursary. fee.
Candidates are invited to obtain details of the Programme from the Kings
Fund and write a short application for consideration by a Panel and
recommendation to the Kings Fund. The programme aims to develop leadership
and problem solving skills in an 'action learning' environment and does
require a considerable commitment, including several residential.. For this
reason candidates are recommended to discuss with both managers and family
before applying. We also recommend that you discuss with your Regional
librarian. The bursay will cover fees for the programme
The Panel will comprise Michael Carmel, Valerie Ferguson, Veronica Fraser
and a nominee of Martin Staniforth (Deputy Director of HR, NHS Executive)
We plan to meet to discuss candidates and there may be interviews.
There are no formal requirements of candidates but our expectation is that
applicants will have several years experience in NHS library and
information services and/or hold a post that has some regionwide
responsibility. for the purpose of this bursary we identify NHS librarians
as people working in services/posts which are funded by or serve the NHS.
Active membership of and contribution to Regional library networks is
sought. This will be first librarian ever on the Programme and the
successful candidate will be 'flying' the flag' for us all with their peers
on the course. It is expected that the successful applicant will feedback
into their Region, RLG and the profession in a variety of ways including
writing for our professional press, giving presentations about their
experience on the programme, mentoring and coaching others.
The Panel would like to see a short CV and supporting statement covering
what you aim to get out of the programme and how you you can plough this
back in to the profession. If you have a PDP please include plus a
statement that your application is supported (or at least not opposed!) by
your manager.
