Dear int-boundaries-receivers,
as a new receiver let me briefly introduce our journal to the int-boundaries
list:
"der ueberblick" (www.der-ueberblick.de) is the quarterly magazine of the
Protestant Churches' Development Services in Germany. It is one of the
oldest German-language periodicals on development and international
co-operation and has a rather good circulation (some 14 000 copies). It is
highly respected for its in-depth coverage of international affairs. Each
issue focusses on a specific subject, region or country. We like to have
authors from the countries we write about. Some of our authors are
scientists who nevertheless write (or are edited) in a way that
the articles are easy to read by the general public.
Our issue 4/2000 will be published in December 2000 and will focus on
"Boundaries", the reason why we have joined the int-boundaries list.
We have already established a list of topics we are researching
on (and look for potential authors), e.g. Boundaries in the world wide
web -
the control of information flow; Submarine boundaries - (how) are the
international
waters being (newly?) divided?; Nomadic people's perception of boundaries
(Touareg); The boundary between Germany and Poland; Space boundaries; The
establishment of today's boundaries - historic (comparative) overview on
Africa, Asia and Latin America ...
However, this list is open and we would be delighted to receive further
suggestions on topics (specific boundaries, etc.), which are currently
discussed among international boundaries researchers and are of high
international importance and future relevance. We could certainly
also think about publishing an article by researchers, if the suggested
topic fits in.
Unfortunately we have only a small budget and can only offer a fee of some
DM 150,- (about 50 pounds or 75 US-Dollar) per page of printed text (some
7.300 signs) and its online version, which is accessible only to
subscribers of our magazine. The translation (from English, French,
Spanish, Russian, ...)
would be done by us.
We have also started to gather some information on the European Union's
boundary in Latin America, which is French Guyana's boundary with its
neighbour countries. It seems to us a very interesting boundary, but we
could not find much on it on the web. Can we find out more on
it through the int-boundaries list?
We are looking forward to receiving interesting information on
international boundaries and ongoing discussions through your list.
Best wishes and kind regards,
Sören Bauer (Mr.)
