Hello:
I have four different, all very obscure questions.
They are all on historical boundaries except one. I
have organized them on progressively more obscure
subjects.
1) The Portuguese owned a fort names Sao Joao
Fracisco de Ajuda in the town of Ajuda, now Ouidah,
until 1961. This was considered a tiny territory of
Portugal until 1961 when the government of Benin,
where the town is, forcibly took it over. My question
is does anybody know how much territory was claimed by
Portugal. Just the fort or some territory beyond it?
2) While looking at a book on the boundaries in
Appenzell cantons of Switzerland, I found that
Appenzell Inner-Rhoden has the exclave of Kloster
Grimmenstein in Appenzell Ausser-Rhoden. This enclave
is very small, so small that the boundaries cannot
even be showed on 1:25000 map of the area. Is there
any other such enclaves within the Swiss
confederation. Is there any international Swiss
enclaves of that size. "The Encyclopedia of
International Boundaries" mentions that Switzerland
has some small enclaves in France. I do not believe
there is as I have looked in maps and never found any
and a few people, including members of this list never
found any. But it is possible that we might have
missed some enclaves if they are such size as less
than an acre.
3) In Pondicherry, the village of Vadanpur was in the
commune of Tribouvane, now in the commune of
Villenour. This show up as a mixed territory on
colonial French maps. Now it is a provincial
boundary. The Gazzetteer of India mentions that
different plots in the village belongs to different
provinces which belonged to different countries during
colonial times. Does anybody know if such plots were
of different sovereignty next to each other or the
whole village belonged to two country's sovereignty.
4) Until 1947, French claimed some tiny pieces of
territories in many cities besides the 5 big pieces
they had in India. These territories were called
loges. Does anybody know their boundaries or if they
had any boundaries?
