We are in the process of looking at the assessment of our final-
year project units with a view to re-validation. These are typically a
double unit (comprising one third of the final year). There is also a
library-based dissertation single unit (comprising one sixth of the
final year).
One item of discussion is what weightings to put on the various
components. I seem to be at variance with many of my colleagues
here, and I would be interested to hear from those who are
unit/module leaders for similar units.
The various components under discussion are:
A 'portfolio', which records the student's activities during their
project.
The presentation quality of the written report (formatting, spelling,
punctuation, referencing etc).
The content of the written report.
A presentation component, which might be one or both of a poster,
oral presentation (or Powerpoint presentation).
I would welcome response about these, or any other suggestions.
