A third party service identified one of the messages posted to this list as
having a virus. When I checked, my own email programme recognised the virus
as a 'dangerous' Active-X element in the message. The sender of the message
has apologised and is re-posting his advert.
If you have not yet opened the message headed:
Vice President - Plantation Monitoring - Jakarta
Please do NOT open it, simply delete it. If you have opened it please check
your system with a virus scanner immediately.
gis-jobs is an unmoderated list (i.e. messages get sent straight to the
list) so it is possible for a message containing a virus to be posted
directly to the list without my intervention. I don't know if Mailbase have
any facilities to prevent this happening, but I will report this event.
To the best of my knowledge this is the first time a virus has been posted
to gis-jobs since I started to run it about seven years ago. This was not a
malicious attack and I very much hope that it will not re-occur, however
everyone using news lists needs to be vigilant, particularly as HTML
formatted messages without attachments can now carry a virus.
gis-jobs is currently as popular as ever with more than 1250 subscribers.
Good luck in your staff or job hunting.
